Details: Construction is underway on the first phase of the Taylor Thomas Professional Center, which will contain the first medical clinic in southeast Bend. A St. Charles primary care clinic will be the anchor tenant of the new 18,500-square-foot building, located at 61279 S. Highway 97, near Badger Road and SE Third Street.
John Weinsheim, CEO of St. Charles Medical Group, said the health-care provider began conducting evaluations two years ago to learn where its Bend patients were coming from. Through that process, Weinsheim said, St. Charles, which owns and operates family care clinics in Bend, Prineville, Redmond and Sisters, found that the southeast portion of Bend has been underserved by medical facilities.
“Our study showed that’s where a lot of our patients were coming from,” Weinsheim said.
Todd Taylor, CEO of Taylor Northwest, said workers began laying concrete for the building in February, and he was optimistic that construction would be complete by the beginning of November. Taylor and Bob Thomas, owner of the former Bob Thomas Car Co., in Bend, own the facility and will lease it to St. Charles.

The clinic will be devoted mainly to primary care, with family and internal medicine units, along with facilities for immediate care. The clinic will be open for extended hours every day, Weinsheim said.
Additionally, there will be eight doctors on site, including four family physicians, and the building will also have a wing devoted to physical therapy that will also be operated by St. Charles.
Taylor said the primary care building is one of three buildings that will be part of the medical center. He added that one of the other buildings will be occupied by Central Oregon Radiology and will be completed by spring 2017. Taylor estimated the overall project will cost more than $14 million.
