Hawks boys, Storm girls win La Pine meet

LA PINE — Justin Petz won the 100-meter dash, the pole vault and the long jump to lead the La Pine boys track and field team to a win at the La Pine Invitational on Saturday. The Hawks finished with 172.5 points, 69.5 points ahead of second-place Mazama at the 13-team meet.
Brenden Wolf won the high jump and the triple jump, and Chandler George won the 110 hurdles for La Pine.
A split squad of Summit finished in fifth with 72 points, led by Noah Turnbull’s win in the discus.
Gilchrist was seventh with 27 points, highlighted by third-place finishes by Jacob Newton (javelin) and Hunter Nelson (1,500).
Corey Sledge was second in the pole vault to lead Culver to eighth place with 23 points. North Lake took 12th with five points, and Trinity Lutheran was 13th with two points.
On the girls side, Anna Hinz won the 400 and Brianna Absalon won the 3,000 to lead Summit to 166.5 points and a first-place finish, 77.5 points ahead of second place La Pine.
Jordynn Slater won both the shot put and the javelin for the Hawks.
Skyla Newton won the 100- and 300-meter hurdle races to lead Gilchrist, which was fourth with 56 points. Cassie Blum won the long jump for the Grizzlies.
Kendra Murphy was first in the high jump, 100 and 200 for North Lake, which was fifth place with 55.5 points.
For Culver, which placed seventh with 45 points, Emma Knepp was second in the 800 and Catylynn Duff was second in the discus.

Lava Bears lead way: CRATER — Meagan Bakker won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles races and was second in the long jump to help the Bend girls post 201.5 points and win the 15-team Crater Track & Field Classic. Maya Hopwood won the 100 and was second in the 200 for Bend. Cassidy Hughes won the javelin and was runner-up in the discus for Mountain View, which was second with 77 points, while Kelsey Swenson took second in the 3,000. The Bend boys, who were second with 113.5 points, were paced by Logan Blake’s wins in the 200 and the 400. Caleb Hoffmann (800), Raymond Blasquez (high jump) and Brady Petz (pole vault) each placed second for the Lava Bears. Tristan Scott was second in the pole vault for Mountain View, which was 12th with 15.5 points.
Storm first at Relays: EUGENE — Olivia Brooks was first in the 1,500, Camille Weaver took second in the triple jump and fourth in the 100 hurdles, and Summit topped the 60-team standings with a boys and girls combined team score of 95 points at the Oregon Relays. Piper Flannery finished second in the 400, Hannah Cochran was third in the high jump, and Megan Cornett took fourth in the javelin for the Storm, who also won the 4×400 relay by nearly two seconds.
Cowboys, Cowgirls shine: COOS BAY — Parker Lapsley won the high jump to highlight the Crook County boys at the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational, and Sam Santiago was second in both the 200 and the 400. Ashton Morgan won the discus for the Cowgirls, while Cheyenne Collins placed third in the high jump.
Boys tennis
Storm claim own tourney: Summit overpowered Churchill of Eugene 8-0 to finish 3-0 in the Summit Invite and capture first place in the two-day tournament at the Athletic Club of Bend. Carter Quigley was 3-0 for the tourney in the No. 1 singles slot for the Storm, as were Andy Jones at No. 2, Jesse DeMeyer at No. 3 and Dylan Warren at No. 4. The Summit doubles teams of Tomas Todd/Joshua Marine, Cole Younger/Ricky Marine and Henry Allen/Nick Guyer also were 3-0 for the weekend. Ashland was second in the six-team field at 2-1; Mountain View also was 2-1 but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Grizzlies, a 6-2 decision. Churchill and Kennewick (Wash.) both were 1-2, and Bend High finished 0-3. The Lava Bears’ lone match Saturday was a 5-3 loss to Kennewick.
Girls tennis
Cowgirls place 3rd: MADRAS — Kadence Kee and Grace Harper placed third at No. 2 doubles, Laura Fraser and Gwyneth Ptomey were fourth at No. 1 doubles, and Crook County finished fourth at the eight-team Madras Invite with a team score of 105. Greta Harris took first at No. 1 singles for Redmond, which was sixth as a team with an 85, while Rosita Santellano was third at No. 2 singles for Madras, which was fifth with 86 points. Vale won the meet with 144 points.
Softball
Pilot Rock 17-21, Culver 0-1: PILOT ROCK — Alesha Freeman recorded the only hit in Culver’s opener, and she had two hits and an RBI in the second game against the No. 2 Rockets. Also in the second contest, Lorena Vasquez had a hit and scored the lone run for the Bulldogs (0-3 SD6, 5-7 overall).
Boys lacrosse
Oregon Episcopal 9, Bend 8: Chance Buetler scored four goals, and Mark Fish had three goals and an assist to lead Bend (5-3) in an overtime loss.
Ridgeview 9, Century 8: REDMOND — Daniel McGinty scored three goals, including the game-winning score, to lead Ridgeview to a nonconference win. Elliot Smith made nine saves for the Ravens (3-7), including three in the final three minutes of the game.
Mountain View 8, Roseburg 2: On Friday, Tyler Shaw had four goals, Anthony LaDuca scored twice, and the Cougars picked up a nonconference win. Grant Gorham and Andrew Vizna each had a goal and an assist for Mountain View (7-2), Matt Shaw had an assist, and Kersey Farrell was credited with 11 saves.
Girls lacrosse
Lakeridge 11, Summit 5: Julia Stites scored three goals, but the Storm fell in a nonleague contest. Fiona Dolan scored the other two goals for Summit (5-2), and Lauren Gallivan had an assist.
