Making Memories

As spring begins to merge into summer and the cold winter fades into memory, outdoor activities quickly hit the top of the family “to-do” list. Among the many options for exploring Central Oregon, bicycling is a great way to spend a day under the vast blue skies, taking in the view while having fun getting fit. From relaxing to rigorous, the options for bicycle rides in the High Desert are endless. When it comes to a family-friendly ride, the more than 30 miles of paved bicycle paths that wind throughout Sunriver offer a route for every rider — toddlers, teens, parents and grandparents alike. Choose a short loop, or take the whole day to meander through it all. Pedal along the Deschutes, past the airport and out to the stables where horses grazing in the open pastures offer a feeling of the old west. With the snow lingering on the slopes of Mount Bachelor off in the distance, the views are awe inspiring. Let the kids set the pace and plan for plenty of stops along the way so they can rest and explore. If the day turns too hot to pedal, the Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) just might be the perfect reward for your efforts. Remember, keeping your kids happy and safe is the best way to create lasting memories, so don’t forget the sunblock and bicycle helmets!
