Tie-down, saddle bronc records matched

SISTERS — Tie-down roper Matt Shiozawa of Chubbuck, Idaho, tied the Sisters Rodeo Grounds arena record of 7.8 seconds in the first of Saturday’s two rodeo performances. Riley Richard Warren, of Stettler, Alberta, recorded the fastest tie-down roping time of the evening performance with 8.5 seconds.

Jessy Davis, of Power, Montana, had the best bareback ride of the matinee performance with a 78.5-point ride, while Buck Lunak of Cut Bank, Montana, bested him by one point in the nightcap and now leads the weekend standings.

Riley York, of Loyalton, California, recorded a time of 4.7 seconds in the afternoon steer wrestling.

Saddle bronc rider Chuck Schmidt, of Keldron, South Dakota, tied the arena record during the evening performance with an 88-point ride, and Brady Nicholes of Hoytsville, Utah, led the afternoon saddle bronc riders with 82.5 points.

Team ropers Spencer Mitchell, of Williams, California, and Justin Davis, of Cottonwood, California, recorded a time of 6.4 seconds to lead the early performance, and Chris McKoen, of Merrill, and Jason Duby, of Klamath Falls, had the fastest time of the evening performance at 5.2 seconds.

Barrel racer Meghan Johnson, of Deming, New Mexico, had the fastest time of the afternoon at 17.83 seconds, and Amber Leigh Moore, of Salem, took the lead in the weekend barrel racing standings with a time of 17.43 seconds.

Four cowboys earned scores of 81.5 or above in the evening bull riding performance. Derek Kolbaba of Walla Walla, Washington, now leads the weekend standings with 85.5 points.

Hereford’s Johnny Loverin Owens earned the highest score of the afternoon bull riders with 76.5 points.

The final performance of the 76th Sisters Rodeo will begin at 1 p.m. today.
