A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF DR. CHERYL BYRD
“Bring Your Dog to the Park Party”
Tumalo State Park, Day Area B
June 12, 2016 ~ 1:00 to 4:00 PM
Dr. Cheryl Byrd passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a sudden illness in March. She was the beloved veterinarian at BrightSide Animal Center for many years. Dr. Byrd devoted her life to educating the public and fellow professionals to the needs of animals. She is responsible for rescuing and saving hundreds of animals who would otherwise have been deemed unadoptable or medically un-savable. Many of you may remember Dr. Byrd’s heroic challenge and success with the young pit bull Chance. He had many surgeries and setbacks during his recuperation, but Dr. Byrd never gave up on him, sometimes sleeping by him after he’d had a bad day. He was eventually adopted after spending months at the shelter and now lives a full and happy life in Idaho.
Please join us in celebrating Dr. Byrd’s life by having a day at one of her favorite parks—and be sure to bring along your dog(s). (Note: Dogs must be on leashes.)
One of her many dreams, unrealized, was to have a safe, calm sanctuary for stray and senior cats. Her brothers, Brian and Craig, have set up a memorial fund through BrightSide Animal Center in Redmond to raise funds for her cat sanctuary.
Dr. Byrd is survived by her brothers, sister-in-law Denise Byrd, brother-in-law Alex Castillo, dear friend Cathy, and loving dogs Forrest, Darby and Kia. She leaves behind quite a menagerie that also includes horses and cats. Funds will also be set aside for the lifetime care of her animals. They have been able to stay in the family, being cared for by Cathy and good friend Shelly.
