Ben Harper, Innocent Criminals bring new music to Bend

Last year, folk/blues/soul man Ben Harper brought The Innocent Criminals back on the road; this year, he’s released his first album with the band in nine years. “Call it What it Is” doesn’t miss a beat, carrying through the genre-mashing threads of 2007’s “Lifeline” with a healthy dose of the punk-rock fury found on Harper’s earliest solo releases. Lyrically, the singer once concerned with stealing kisses now has racism, social activism, death and family on his mind. Show attendees can hear for themselves — when the band returns to Les Schwab Amphitheater on Saturday, each ticket holder will receive a free download of “Call it What it Is.”
Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, with The Jack Moves: 6 p.m. Saturday, doors open at 5 p.m.; $47.50 plus fees; Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin Hixon Drive, Bend; bendconcerts.com or 541-312-8510.
