Inmate who left site is recaptured

A Deer Ridge Correctional Institution inmate who walked away from an inmate work crew near Sisters on Thursday was apprehended at about 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections.

Richard Clark, 29, was in custody in the Multnomah County jail Friday afternoon. Corrections deputies had learned Clark, an inmate serving time for attempted second-degree robbery out of Washington County, was missing at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

Mountain biker is rescued

Deschutes County Search and Rescue assisted a 50-year-old Bend man after he crashed on a mountain bike Thursday evening on the trail system near Tumalo Falls.

Jeff Hess was riding with two other people just before 7 p.m. when he lost control and crashed about a half-mile from the parking lot, according to a news release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. Hess was wearing a helmet. His companions called 911 and told dispatchers where they were.

One deputy and 16 Search and Rescue volunteers hiked to Hess, reaching him shortly after 8 p.m. He was put on a wheeled stretcher and taken back to the parking lot, where Bend Fire Department paramedics treated him.

Fire burns homein La Pine

La Pine firefighters put out a fire in a doublewide manufactured home Friday morning.

A 911 call came in shortly after 8 a.m. about a fire that had started in an electric furnace, filling the home with smoke, according to a news release from the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District. All four renters in the 1,800-square-foot home on Holiday Drive got out safely.

Parts of the floor and foundation were extensively damaged, but damage from smoke and flames to the house and its contents was limited, the fire district said. The building was insured.

The Red Cross responded to help the displaced renters.
