The Old Mill District in Bend is one of 26 developments around the world selected as finalists for the Urban Land Institute’s 2016 Global Awards for Excellence.

Winning projects, selected by a jury of international experts in design, land planning and other services, will be announced in October in Dallas.

The Old Mill District, a project by William Smith Properties Inc., is on a list that includes projects in San Diego, Seattle, New York City, Paris and Marseille, in France; Mexico City, Mexico; and elsewhere. The projects include retail markets, performing arts centers and residential projects, according to an Urban Land Institute news release.

The Global Awards for Excellence recognize the full development process of a project; criteria for the awards include leadership, contribution to the community, innovations, public/private partnerships and environmental protection and enhancement.
