A Bend startup that makes job-training software for robots will begin testing its product with a select group of customers next month.
Tend.ai recently changed its name from Bold Robotics to accurately reflect its role in the robotics software industry, co-founder Mark Silliman said. The company makes cloud-based software that allows a robot or robotic arm, coupled with a webcam, to see and interpret instructions from manufacturing devices such as 3D printers and laser cutters. The new name, Tend.ai, refers to a robot using artificial intelligence to carry out tasks, such as moving on to the next job, or clearing and boxing an item created from a 3D printer.
Silliman, who sold his interest in the startup SmartWaiver last year, has joined with two other local technology entrepreneurs, Robert Kieffer, and James Gentes.
Gentes sold The Social Business, a social media analytics app, last year. He also founded Startupcommunity.org, which tracks startups in various cities, including Bend. That site is still running.
Tend.ai is based in the BendTech co-working space at 1001 SW Emkay Drive.
