Crook County Search and Rescue found a Prineville man late Saturday after he had become lost rockhounding, according to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
David Givens, 42, was found on an unnamed road near the Dendrite Butte area in the East Maury Mountains at about 10:41 p.m., about three hours after his disappearance was reported to the sheriff’s office, according to a news release from Michael Ryan, emergency manager for the sheriff’s office.
Givens had gone to the area with a friend, Kevin Kirschman. Earlier that day, they’d split up to look for rocks. By early evening, Kirschman was concerned that Givens had not returned to where they parked. He left some supplies and notified a camper that he was going to Prineville to tell authorities that Givens was missing.
Crook County Search & Rescue searched the area and found Givens on the remote road. He was dehydrated but in good condition. He’d gone about five miles from his original location.
