Cyclocross

Thrilla Cyclocross series starts Aug. 31 — The MBSEF Thrilla Cyclocross Series will be held each Wednesday from Aug. 31 and Sept. 28 at the Athletic Club of Bend. The series is open to everyone 12 and older. The 30-minute race will begin at 5:15 p.m. each week, followed by the 45-minute race at 6 p.m. The cost of registration per race is $8 to $25, depending on the age of the rider, number of races entered, and date of registration. Online sign-ups are available at www.mbsef.org/login-sign-up, while day-of registration will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 30 minutes before the start of each race on. Special Olympics

Fall registration deadline is Sept. 9 — All High Desert Special Olympics fall registration forms must be received by Sept. 9. This season, Special Olympic athletes can participate in aquatics, bowling, soccer or distance running. Participants can also sign up for Oregon Team Wellness in conjunction with any other sport. Table Tennis

Bend table tennis player wins silver at two tournaments — Bend Table Tennis member Harold Bunyi won silver at the USATT U1200 Open at the Portland Table Tennis club on Aug. 6, losing to Sarit Roy in the final. He also took silver in the Under 1000 division at the State Games of Oregon, which were held at Willamette Table Tennis Club in Salem on July 16. Paul Sample, also of Bend Table Tennis, won a bronze medal in the U700 division at the State Games.

Track and Field

All-comers meet on Wednesday — Central Oregon Track Club will host the Twilight All-comers meet at Summit High School on Wednesday. Most events are open to club and unattached participants of all ages and experience levels (the pole vault and hurdle events are limited to those with experience in the event). A $5 donation for participation is requested. Online registration closes at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Day-of registration will be available from 5 to 6 p.m. at the track. Triathlon

Kids’ triathlon to be held Aug. 28 — A non-timed triathlon for kids 4 to 15 will be held at the Juniper Swim & Fitness Center and Juniper Park on Aug. 28. Distances for each leg will vary based on age group. Registration is limited to 100 participants and is available online at www.bendparksandrec.org. Entry costs $25 for in-district residents and $30 for out-of-district residents. A mandatory athlete meeting will be held at 9 a.m., and races begin at 9:30 a.m.

Water Skiing

Bend man wins national title — Bend’s Tad Scharpf, 69, won the Men 7 division tricks title at the U.S Water Ski National Championships in Caldwell, Idaho, on Aug. 8. Scharpf, who last won a national title in the Men 6 tricks division in 2009, scored 1012.50 points, besting second-place Daniel Morea of Clark Lake, Michigan by more than 11 points.
