EUGENE — Oregon will be without forward Dillon Brooks on its exhibition tour of Spain next week and the Ducks might need to get used to playing without their leading scorer from last season.

“He’s going to be out for a while,” Oregon men’s basketball coach Dana Altman said Friday morning before the team held its final practice in preparation for the four-game trip beginning Tuesday. “He had surgery and we’ll just have to wait and see what the doctors say.”

Brooks might not be ready when the Ducks open the regular season at home on Nov. 11 against Army.

“I don’t know. I’m not sure what the timetable will be,” Altman said.

The 6-foot-7 Brooks, a first-team all-Pac-12 selection, injured his foot early in the summer and had surgery on July 26.

“It’s tough, but that’s the name of the game sometimes,” Oregon point guard Casey Benson said. “Injuries are part of it, and that’s the sad thing. I feel for Dillon, but other guys have to step up while he’s out. It will thrust guys into a bigger role than maybe they expected. Dillon Brooks was a big part of the team, and we have to pick up the slack when he’s out.”

Brooks led Oregon with 16.7 points and 3.1 assists per game as a sophomore and also grabbed 5.4 rebounds per game.
