Help Warm Springs strays

The Bend Spay+Neuter Project has received more than $8,500 in monetary donations and a 1987 Ford Aerostar van to benefit Warm Springs stray dogs.

Stray Warm Springs dogs often suffer from mange, ticks, fleas and injuries, according to the organization. In addition to treating these ailments, the Bend Spay+Neuter Project will transfer friendly dogs to local shelters for adoption. For less socialized dogs, the nonprofit will work with the community to ensure the canines have a reliable food source and shelter.

The Bend Spay+Neuter Project hopes to implement additional programs such as a basic dog training program, humane education programs, pet food assistance and free spay/neuter/rabies for stray cats living in Warm Springs as well.

Beginning Sept. 6, the Bend Spay+Neuter Project will host monthly free spay/neuter/rabies clinics as part of its Warm Springs program.

While the program is moving forward, more money is needed. Still shy of its $10,000 goal, the nonprofit needs to raise another $4,000; an anonymous donor has promised $2,000 in matching donations if the amount is received by Sept. 1.
