It’s a good week to be a hip-hop fan in Bend. First up, Minneapolis’ underground rap kingpins Atmosphere return to the Midtown Ballroom on Sunday. The duo — rapper Slug (Sean Daley) and DJ/producer Ant (Anthony Davis) — returned last month with the album “Fishing Blues,” a typically introspective, esoteric set brimming with Slug’s soul-bearing stories (check out “Pure Evil,” which takes on police violence from the perspective of an officer) and Ant’s continually evolving soundscapes. The album’s dad-rock (dad hip-hop?) title is tongue-in-cheek — Slug and Ant manage to be cutting edge by being nothing but themselves, regardless of hip-hop’s trends. They’re bringing their friends Brother Ali, Dem Atlas, Plain Ole Bill and Last Word along for the ride on what has been dubbed the Freshwater Fly Fisherman Tour.
Atmosphere, with Brother Ali, Dem Atlas, Plain Ole Bill, Last Word: 7 p.m. Sunday; $27.50 plus fees; Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; randompresents.com, ticketswest.com or 541-408-4329.
