Superstars on screen in Sisters — Sisters Movie House, 720 Desperado Court, will host exclusive screenings of two movies featuring superstars this week.
• Tonight only, the theater will screen the new found-footage documentary, “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years,” directed by Academy Award-winner Ron Howard.
This is the only chance for fans in Central Oregon to see the film on the big screen before it heads to the streaming service Hulu.
The film focuses on the Beatles’ wild ride from the Cavern Club in Liverpool to the band’s last public concert in San Francisco in 1966. It was produced with the full cooperation of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison — Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. “The Touring Years” features rare concert and behind-the-scenes footage, much of it from home movies and photos from fans who attended the band’s gigs in the 1960s. It also includes new interviews with McCartney and Starr, along with archival interviews with Lennon and Harrison.
Screening times are 5 and 7 p.m. tonight. Admission is $9 for all ages. The film is not rated, but is described as suitable for all ages by organizers of the event.
• A digitally remastered version of the 1973 film “Jesus Christ Superstar” will screen at 2 p.m. Saturday, with actor Ted Neeley who plays Jesus, in attendance. Neeley will introduce the film and also participate in a post-show reception with fans.
Adapted from the hit rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, “Superstar” is loosely based on the last week of Jesus’ life, centering on the conflict with Judas. Neeley was nominated for a 1974 Golden Globe for his performance. The songs “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Superstar” are two of the best known tunes from the show.
Tickets for “Jesus Christ Superstar” cost $12.50 for all ages, which includes the post-show reception.
