Nine finalists announced for Bend Venture Conference

On Friday, Economic Development for Central Oregon announced the remaining nine companies that will pitch to investors at the 13th annual Bend Venture Conference.
Five of the companies will compete in the Growth Stage category, which is aimed at companies with a proven concept and initial revenue, according to the news release. The Growth Stage competition will be held the afternoon of Oct. 14 at the Tower Theatre. The five companies are as follows:
• Cartogram, a Kirkland, Washington-based company that builds mobile electronic maps of the interiors of buildings.
• Hubb, a Vancouver, Washington-based company that makes a platform that automates collecting materials for conferences and meetings.
• Outdoor Project, a Portland company’s media platform for outdoor recreation and travel.
• RFPIO Inc., a Portland company that builds software that streamlines and integrates the process of responding to requests for proposal.
• Switchboard, a Portland company that created a platform that allows alumni and other groups of people with shared interests to help each other.
The remaining four companies will compete in the Social Impact category, a new track for companies that integrate a positive social or environmental impact into their business model. The four companies are as follows:
• Hemex Health, a Portland company that developed diagnostic devices for diagnosing and treating malaria and sickle cell disease in countries where no viable tests are available.
• OpConnect, a Portland company that sells and operates smart electric-vehicle charging stations.
• Sudara, a Bend-based company that establishes sewing centers in India to provide jobs for survivors of sex trafficking who make clothes sold online.
• TryEco, a Portland company that makes an absorbent polymer for agricultural firms that reduces watering and increases yield and plant survival rate.
The finalists for the Early Stage category of the conference were determined at EDCO’s September PubTalk.
