Vote your party?
This is in response to an Aug. 31 letter headlined “Vote your party.” The author tells us this year we have no choice. It’s simple: Vote your party. Do we really believe that? Are we lemmings, following the leader off a cliff?
We currently find ourselves with two candidates who are intensely disliked by a large chunk of American voters. I believe we can’t simply vote for the party because the consequences could be catastrophic. We have to use our love of America, our survival instinct, our head and heart to decide which personality we can trust with nuclear launch codes and our future.

Too hard on restaurant
Recently, in GO! Magazine, you reviewed the Moose Sisters restaurant. I must say I thought your reviewer was very critical and maybe too biased.
We have eaten at Moose Sisters several times and recommended this restaurant to numerous friends and neighbors. Everyone has had positive comments about the ambiance, service, food and the owners! Marlene and Maxine are new to Bend and have taken on a huge adventure with this restaurant. I feel we should be supporting these entrepreneurs instead of throwing them under the bus! They have created a great restaurant that is hip and enjoyable. It is outside of downtown with parking!
Nothing is perfect, but they are trying hard to establish themselves in our community! The GO! review should not be so negative about a restaurant that is trying so hard to excel.
Just saying …

Thanks Bend Council for climate vote
The Bend City Council deserves a standing ovation for its leadership and vote on Sept. 7 that passed the Climate Action Resolution for the city and the Bend community.
Thank you, Mayor Jim Clinton, for your courage, leadership and inspiration in this process. And thanks to council members Doug Knight, Sally Russell, Nathan Boddie, and Barb Campbell for your proactive work to understand the goals of the resolution and champion them for the residents of our community.
The resolution was well-studied and thought out, using the latest available science and learning from other communities that have passed similar action plans. Bend’s action plan will engage the wider community of Bend in this effort.
The majority of people who attended City Council meetings were in favor of a climate action plan. We are devoted to reducing fossil fuel emission that will make a difference for a healthier environment and atmosphere for future generations. The youth of Bend are passionate and also committed to this effort.
Again, thank you for inspiring us. We know that the hard work of action is ahead. As someone said, we now move forward from “aspirational to operational.” Many look forward to being involved and seeing our community, especially the youth, reap the benefits.

Thanks to helpful teens
At a recent Friday Art Walk, I was returning to my car along Minnesota Avenue when my foot caught an edge of a cement framing around a tree; it was slightly higher than the paver sidewalk. I took a full face-plant on the sidewalk, resulting in a cut that required eight stitches. I was in a complete daze when four very concerned and caring teens appeared and helped me to a near by bench.
Three of the teens had just graduated from high school and the other was a senior, and I’m sure the last thing they wished to do was to help a clumsy retired rocket scientist, but that they did.
They asked the right questions and who they could call; but I live alone and did not recall any other phone numbers. Their concern was most calming, but I didn’t get their names except for the high school senior, Lake, who escorted me back to my car.
To the parents of these young adults: You “done” good! Thanks again to all four and thanks to the man who brought me an ice bag.
