After 15 years in business, the owners of Douglas Jewelry Design are planning to close the store in December.
Steven Douglas, co-owner of Douglas Jewelry Design, said he and his wife, Elyse, are looking toward retirement and want to ease back their workload. Douglas said the pair is planning a separate retail venture, which would focus more specifically on the Oregon Sunstone, a gem mined in Eastern Oregon that already plays a large role in the store’s jewelry designs. Douglas said the new concept will be less labor-intensive than the current operation, which involves mining, designing and selling a variety of custom jewelry.
“We’re going through a radical rebranding,” Douglas said Friday.
He added that the current store, located in downtown Bend at 920 NW Bond St, is slated to close for good on Dec. 24. Douglas Jewelry Design originally opened in the Old Mill District in 2001, before moving to its current location three years thereafter.
