Summit’s Bledsoe, Redmond’s Smith highlight all-league football

Summit quarterback John Bledsoe and Redmond High linebacker Cooger Smith have been voted the Class 5A Special District 1 offensive and defensive players of the year. Smith shares the honor with Hermiston defensive lineman John-Henry Line. Summit’s Joe Padilla was named the league’s coach of the year. The Storm, the conference champions, boast seven other first-team players, including Grant Tobias, who was selected as both a tight end and a linebacker, and Kyle Cornett, named as a defensive back and punter. Redmond offensive linemen Zach Redelings, Tanner Gilchrist and Mario Nonato were named to the first team, as was Panthers defensive lineman Matt Allen. Mountain View brothers Spencer Klein (linebacker) and Noah Klein (center) were selected to the first team, defensive backs Dalton Lickteig and Ryan Stanley highlight six Bend High first-team players, and defensive back Remy Barber was the lone Ridgeview first-team selection.
All-tournament water polo — After leading Mountain View to the 5A/4A Oregon High School Water Polo boys state championship Nov. 12, Cougars junior Taiton Fox was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Mountain View seniors Carson Corrigan, Trevor Fox and Micah Rodriguez were also selected to the all-tournament first team, as was Summit senior Koal Robson. Storm junior Kole Miller, Carl Bohem and Jesse Bandy were chosen to the second team, joining Cougars sophomore Preston Carey. Summit senior and Mountain View junior Noah Weedman received honorable mention. Named to the girls all-tournament first team were Storm seniors Paige Miller and Jenna Wimmer and Summit sophomore Gillian Fritz. Mountain View seniors Chelsea Evans and Cassidy Evans were voted to the second team, as was Summit sophomore Maddie Coleman. Storm senior Kelsey Norby and Cougars seniors Allison Cox and Katie Nolan received honorable mention.
All-TVC football — Crook County senior Mathew Kasberger has been voted to the all-Tri-Valley Conference football first team as both an offensive guard and defensive lineman, highlighting a list of Crook County and Madras players who received all-league recognition. Cowboys junior linebacker Jacob Kasberger and junior kicker Victor Ramirez and Madras senior punter Omar Dominguez were selected to the first team. Crook County senior wide receiver Keenan Mozingo, sophomore center Caleb Parrott, junior defensive back Mason Cooley and seniors Jayce Garthwaite, a defensive lineman, and Jeremiah Johnson, a linebacker, were voted to the second team. Receiving honorable mention were, from Crook County, senior offensive guard Cameron Kleffner and senior tackle Darrien Langley, and from Madras, senior wide receiver Damean Franks, senior tackle Colton Goss, senior defensive lineman Daren Shaw, senior defensive back Dalton Waldow, junior running back and linebacker Brady Pattenaude, junior center Damon Bentz and junior defensive lineman Harrison Manu. Gladstone running back Quinn Carl and defensive lineman Jackson Simmons were voted the offensive and defensive players of the year, and Estacada offensive tackle Phoenix Etheridge was selected lineman of the year. Estacada’s Andy Mott was chosen coach of the year, and Gladstone’s Dan Lee was voted assistant coach of the year.
All-Sky Em soccer — Senior Malachy Sundstrom of Sky-Em League boys soccer champion Sisters has been voted the league’s player of the year. Other Outlaws on the first team include seniors Keegan Greaney, Minam Cravens and Ryan Funk and sophomore Asher Bachtold. Seniors Sean Willitts and Alec Gannon and sophomore Colby Simeral were selected to the second team for Sisters, and Outlaws senior Anson Ricker received honorable mention. For the girls, Sisters senior Nika Chick was voted to the first team, junior Rylee Weber and freshman Olivia Hougham were chosen to the second team, and senior Charlotte Barton and sophomore Lexi Stewart received honorable mention. Elmira’s Tommy Laing and Sweet Home’s Eric Stutzer were voted the boys coaches of the year, Junction City’s Chris Bolton and Sutherlin’s Kevin Hunt share the girls coach of the year honor, and Junction City’s Alex Norris was selected as the girls player of the year.
All-CBC football — Four Culver football players have been voted to the all-Columbia Basin Conference first team, and another two have been selected to the second team. Senior Mack Little was named to the first team as both an offensive lineman and a linebacker, and senior Jorge Olivera, who received honorable mention at quarterback, made the first team as a defensive back and a kicker. They are joined by Bulldogs seniors Jaiden Jones (running back) and Marco Retano (wide receiver). Junior offensive and defensive lineman Cole Little and sophomore linebacker and punter Victor Torres, who also received honorable mention as running back, were voted to the second team.
Former Cowboy signs with OSU — Kurt Mode, a 2016 graduate of Crook County High, has signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Oregon State next season, the university announced last week. Now a freshman at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, the 141-pound Mode went 44-3 last season with the Cowboys en route to the Class 4A individual title. He placed second at last spring’s Flo Reno Worlds and captured the individual championship at the Mike Clock Open earlier this month for CCC.
