- Barb Gonzalez / For The BulletinMorning mist rises from the surface of pine-and-willow-framed Suttle Lake, 14 miles northwest of Sisters at the foot of Santiam Pass. A mile and a half long and as much as 75 feet deep, the lake was formed by glaciers about 25,000 years ago.
Located 15 miles northwest of Sisters, Suttle Lake is open to angling year-round and offers kokanee and trout fishing. The 25-acre lake includes views of Mount Washington on a clear day and is home to kokanee, brown trout and whitefish. Still fishing or fly-fishing from a boat are the most common techniques on Suttle Lake, but fishing from shore is doable in certain areas, as a trail circles the lake. For updated lake conditions, call the Deschutes National Forest Sisters Ranger District at 541-549-7700.
