EUGENE — Rob Mullens is doing a Texas two-step.
Oregon’s athletic director spent most of Saturday in the Dallas area fulfilling his duties as a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee, which releases the four-team playoff bracket and final rankings today.
Mullens also interviewed two candidates to be Oregon’s next head coach: Boise State’s Bryan Harsin and South Florida’s Willie Taggart, according to Fox and ESPN reports.
Harsin has a 38-13 overall record — 7-5 in one season at Arkansas State (2013) and 31-8 in three seasons at Boise State (2014-16).
Taggart has a 40-45 overall record — 16-20 in three seasons at Western Kentucky (2010-12) and 24-25 in four seasons in four seasons at South Florida (2013-16).
Both the Broncos and Bulls finished 10-2 this season.
Another potential candidate, P.J. Fleck, coached No. 17 Western Michigan to a 29-23 victory over Ohio in the MAC championship Friday night. The Broncos (13-0) are expected to be selected for a New Year’s Six bowl today.
“We are going to celebrate this tonight, period,” Fleck said after the game when asked about his name being mentioned for openings at bigger schools. “I’ve said it before, I haven’t talked to anybody and that’s been the 100 percent truth.”
Fleck has a 30-21 record in four seasons at Western Michigan.
Mullens fired Mark Helfrich on Tuesday after the Ducks’ 4-8 finish. He was 37-16 in four seasons at Oregon.
