Q: Is Kyra Sedgwick ever going to do a cameo on “Major Crimes”?

— Diane Brown, Twin Falls, Idaho

A: According to a Reddit interview given by executive producer James Duff — who also served in that role on “The Closer,” which he co-created — the TNT spinoff “has a contract” with Sedgwick to appear “in several episodes” when she’s available and if the story warrants it. Duff says conversations are ongoing with her about when that might happen, but as of this writing, there’s nothing more definite than that to report.

Q: I enjoy watching reruns of “NYPD Blue.” Can you tell me where some of the actors are now, specifically Dennis Franz?

— Dee Jordan, Palm Coast, Florida

A: Franz’s appearance with former co-star Jimmy Smits at September’s Emmy Awards, to present the honor for best drama series, marked the first time he’d been seen in quite a while. He hasn’t done any credited acting since the end of “Blue” in 2005, though he has done the occasional special event, such as the National Memorial Day Concert in 2012.

As for Smits, he’s had regular stints on such shows as FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” and Netflix’s “The Get Down,” and he’ll be in the regular cast of Fox’s “24: Legacy” when it premieres in February. Mark-Paul Gosselaar also is a Fox series star now, seen in the baseball drama “Pitch” after doing the short-lived NBC sitcom “Truth Be Told.”

David Caruso hasn’t registered any credits since “CSI: Miami” ended in 2012, but Amy Brenneman will be back next year for the third and final season of HBO’s “The Leftovers.” Also seen occasionally on The CW’s “Reign,” she also was an executive producer (with her filmmaker husband Brad Silberling) of last season’s NBC medical drama “Heartbeat.”

Nicholas Turturro was on CBS’ “Blue Bloods” for several seasons and was seen recently in HBO’s “The Night Of” (which starred his brother John), and Henry Simmons has been on ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” lately. Gordon Clapp has a recurring role as a chaplain on NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” and Sharon Lawrence appeared on TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” and NBC’s “Game of Silence.”

And we’re not done yet: Rick Schroder just reprised his role from a 2015 TV movie in NBC’s “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love”; James McDaniel has guest-starred in shows including Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” and NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” and “The Night Shift”; and Kim Delaney was seen on TNT’s “Murder in the First” (also executive-produced by “NYPD Blue’s” Steven Bochco) after her run in Lifetime’s “Army Wives.”

And … Charlotte Ross has a recurring role as Felicity’s mother on The CW’s “Arrow,” Gail O’Grady often turns up in Lifetime and Hallmark Channel movies (and just appeared as herself on ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat”), Bonnie Somerville was in the first season of CBS’ “Code Black,” Esai Morales has had roles on CBS’ “Criminal Minds” and Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle,” and Sherry Stringfield may be back as Gary Sinise’s wife when CBS’ “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” resumes in the new year.

Q: I know Colin Hanks is Tom Hanks’ son, but did he ever have a TV series before “Life in Pieces”?

— Scott Mayer, via email

A: He was a star of the short-lived “The Good Guys” and the first season of “Fargo,” and he also had runs on “Roswell,” “Mad Men,” “Dexter” and the dating-show satire “Burning Love.” He’s also gaining acclaim as a maker of documentaries related to the music world; after “All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records,” Hanks’ “Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends)” — about the band that was playing at the time and place of a terrorist attack in Paris in 2015 — debuts on HBO in February.
