Alyce P. (Meloon) Van Til

Alyce passed peacefully surrounded by family and dear friends December 2, 2016.

She was born December 15, 1932, in Buffalo, New York to parents Robert D. Meloon Sr. and Erna P. (Sepp) Meloon who preceded her in death.

Alyce is survived by her loving husband and soul mate, William Van Til of Bend, OR; their children and grandchildren, Mark and Patricia (Alex and Katie) Van Til of Napa, CA; Debbie and Eric (Megan and Annika) Helber of Ann Arbor, MI; and Diane and partner, Raul Cuervo, (Sarah and Jack) Muller of Tampa, FL. Siblings Robert D. Meloon Jr. of Vista, CA; Wayne and Kaye Van Til of Mattawan, MI; Thelma Van Til and long-time family friend, Helen Peterson of Portage, MI; and Carl and Ruth Van Til of Holland, MI.

Alyce is best known for her life of service. Her formative years were shaped by a loving family who supported her through her trauma and recovery from Polio at age 11.

In 1954, Alyce was graduated from Northwestern Schools in Minneapolis, MN, with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible. Her career began with Pioneer Girls Club working her way from field work, camp director, and finally as the National Field Director. After moving to Denver in 1977, she transitioned into the second half of her career working for Denver Seminary, assisting in the registrar’s office and eventually, becoming the Dean of Students.

Alyce is best known to those who love her as kind, caring, and generous of heart. She was a mentor to many and deeply loved by all who knew her.

A celebration of Alyce’s life will be held at Nativity Lutheran Church, Bend, OR, on December 15, 2016, at 11am.
