The Bethlehem Inn received a $25,000 grant from the Bank of the Cascades to help build more family units, according to a news release from the organization.

The Bethlehem Inn is in the midst of raising money to double the number of family units from five to 10 and build a commercial kitchen. The Bank of the Cascade grant is on top of other money raised as part of a capital campaign, including a $500,000 grant from the Central Oregon Health Council, according to the Bethlehem Inn.

Right, now the shelter, which used to be a motel, houses 75 to 90 people nightly and serves about 70,000 meals each year, which are provided by volunteers. The Bethlehem Inn says it plans to start construction on the new buildings in March 2017.
