If you’re looking to kick off your New Year’s celebrating a bit early, head to Old Stone Performing Arts Center on Friday for some authentic salsa dancing. Portland’s own 10-piece SalsaNova Orchestra, led by charismatic singer and bandleader Roberto Iglesias, will headline the evening, with more music from DJ Roger Rumba. Bend Latin Dance director Andres Garcia will serve as emcee. Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Latino Community Association and the Bend chapter of Volunteers in Medicine. It’s usually a struggle finding authentic Latin music in Central Oregon (with the notable exception of local favorites ¡Chiringa!), so this is the perfect time to throw down on the dance floor and celebrate.
SalsaNova Orchestra, with DJ Roger Rumba: 8 p.m. Friday; $35 plus fees in advance; ages 21 and older; Old Stone Performing Arts Center, 157 NW Franklin Ave., Bend; oldstonebend.com or 541-322-7273.
