A Redmond man arrested Friday for assaulting a woman with a gun near Obsidian Middle school has been charged.

Steven Arce, 29, was arraigned Monday on felony second-degree assault, felony unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor charge of menacing.

Arce hit his girlfriend, Jessica Mejia, over the head with a Glock pistol, according to a Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office news release. When Redmond Police officers arrived on scene, they found blood coming from Mejia’s head, a bruise on her shoulder and other injuries, the release said.

The assault prompted the lockdown of the school for several hours as Arce refused to leave his nearby home. Police arrived with SWAT-style vehicles and attempted to communicate with Arce. He was eventually arrested after exiting the home of his own accord about four hours after Mejia reported the crime.

Acre’s case will be presented to the grand jury this week, the release said, and is scheduled to be arraigned on the grand jury’s findings on April 3.
