Champs crowned at Stampede

REDMOND — The dust has settled on two nights of pro rodeo action in Central Oregon, and the champions have been crowned for the 2017 High Desert Stampede.
The $150,000 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event concluded Saturday night at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. More than 300 cowboys and cowgirls from across the western United States and Canada made up the field.

Event champions included Austin Foss, of Terrebonne, in bareback riding; his winning mark was 85 points on Girl Crush. Another Central Oregon cowboy, Prineville’s Charly Crawford, combined with Joseph Harrison, of Overbrook, Oklahoma, to tie for first place in team roping with Canadian ropers Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler; their times were 4.7 seconds.
Also from Oregon, Jordan Valley’s Sam Mackenzie topped the field in steer wrestling with a time of 5.0 seconds. Other winners were Jaime Hinton, of Bulverde, Texas, in barrel racing (16.49 seconds); Dakota Lewis, of Browning, Montana, in bull riding (85.5 points); Tyler Corrington, of Hastings, Minnesota, in saddle bronc riding (85.5 points); and Ben Robinson, of Red Deer County, Alberta (8.2 seconds).
