5th-inning rally lifts Redmond past Mountain View

REDMOND — A key offensive burst in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Andrew McKague all the cushion he needed as Redmond High rallied past Mountain View for a 5-4 Intermountain Conference baseball win on Tuesday.

McKague struck out five in six innings for the Panthers, who trailed 4-3 after the Cougars plated two runs in the top of the fifth. Redmond, though, answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and held off Mountain View for its first league win.

Tyler Elliott-Johnson had two hits for the Panthers (1-1 IMC, 3-7 overall), who snapped a four-game skid. Redmond’s Rider Molina drove in two runs.

For the Cougars (0-1, 2-7), Steven Lippi and Jayson Kinyon each had two hits, and Ryan Martini had two RBIs.

Summit 15, Ridgeview 3: REDMOND — Wolf Meckem had three hits and three RBIs to lift the Storm to a win in their Intermountain Conference opener. Sam Waterman finished with three hits for Summit (1-0 IMC, 3-5 overall) and drove in two runs. Holden Penhollow led Ridgeview (0-1, 3-5) with a double and two RBIs, and J.T. Edmondson had a double.

Culver 4, Crook County JV 4: PRINEVILLE — The Bulldogs (2-2-1) settled for a tie after nine innings due to time in a nonconference game.

Softball

Ridgeview 11, Summit 2: REDMOND — All nine starters recorded a hit for the Ravens in their Intermountain Conference opener. Ridgeview’s Kate Lieberenz finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Kate Salka also went 3-for-4 and added two RBIs. Alex Spencer recorded three hits for the Ravens (1-0 IMC, 9-0 overall), and Natalie Hill pitched a complete game for the Class 5A No. 5-ranked Ravens, striking out six and giving up five hits. Hailey Nelson had two hits for the Storm (0-1, 1-5).

Redmond 9, Mountain View 0: REDMOND — Kaila Fierstos pitched a shutout with six strikeouts for the Panthers in an Intermountain Conference win. Fierstos also finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double for Redmond (1-1 IMC, 3-6 overall). The Panthers’ Kiki Fierstos was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles, and Berkley Puckett went 2-for-3 with a double. Madison Leighton and Skylar Garcia paced the Cougars (0-1, 1-7) with three hits apiece. Mountain View’s Kayla Berg struck out seven.

Crook County JV 12, Culver 7: PRINEVILLE — Lorena Vasquez had two hits and an RBI, but the Bulldogs fell in nonconference action. Mia Gamboa doubled and drove in a run for Culver (1-5), and Kinzi Jagels finished with two hits.

Girls lacrosse

Bend 24, Sheldon 6: EUGENE — Joren Fettig had four goals, four assists and 13 draw controls to lead Bend to a nonconference win. Emma Beaver scored five times and won four ground balls for Bend (3-0), Kaylene Oates had four goals and two assists, and Mia Morey added three scores and three ground balls.

Churchill 12, Sisters 11: EUGENE — The Outlaws (1-3) fell in a nonconference contest.
