Police are searching for a man who opened fire in Wal-Mart in Bend in attempt to steal electronics.

Reports of shots fired at the shopping center on Pinebrook Boulevard came in at 4 a.m. Thursday. The Bend Police Department and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded and attempted to locate a suspect, but were unsuccessful.

According to a Bend Police Department news release, a skinny, 6-foot-tall black man entered the electronics department and fired two rounds from a 9mm pistol at the lock of a case in an attempt to steal locked-up items. No one was injured during the incident, the release said.

The man — reportedly between 20 and 30 years old — fled following the shooting. Police locked down the store and nearby Albertsons and Shari’s businesses in attempt to catch the perpetrator, but were unable to locate him.

When reached Thursday morning, Bend Police did not have surveillance footage of the attempted robber. According to the release, he was wearing a multi-colored sweatshirt, jeans, a beanie and black shoes.
