Deaths of note from around the world:

Kerry Turman, 59: Longtime bassist for Motown group The Temptations. Turman had performed with the band since the 1980s. Died at his hotel in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, after a performance Saturday.

Cecilia Alvear, 77: Journalist who fought for Latino inclusion in newsrooms and reached unprecedented heights for a Hispanic woman in journalism in a decadeslong career with NBC news. Died of breast cancer at her home in Santa Monica, California, on Tuesday.

Julia Hamblet, 100: Retired colonel who was instrumental in integrating women into the regular Marine Corps in the late 1940s and became the longest-serving director of the women’s branch of the Marines. Died April 17 at a retirement home in Williamsburg, Virginia.
