The Cascade Lakes Highway was opened up to just north of Lava Lake from the south on Friday, allowing for access to the lake, according to the Deschutes County Road Department.

Lava Lake is ice-free, and there is full access to Lava Lake Resort and the boat ramp, according to resort owner Joie Frazee.

Lava Lake typically offers good early-season fishing for stocked rainbow trout.

The Cascade Lakes Highway remains closed from Mount Bachelor to north of Lava Lake.

East of La Pine, Paulina Lake and East Lake remain inaccessible as the snow gate remains closed at Ten Mile Sno-park, according to the road department.
