Bend United advances to OGLA Silver quarterfinals

Bend United kept its season alive with a 10-8 win over Churchill in an Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association Silver first-round playoff match Tuesday at Mountain View High School.

The victory sends No. 20 seed Bend to a quarterfinal game against crosstown rival Summit at 6 p.m. Thursday on the No. 13 Storm’s home field.

Joren Fettig scored four goals and had six ground balls and eight draw controls to lead Bend (10-4). Emma Beaver had three goals and five ground balls, and Bethany Seitz, Kaylene Oates and Kelsey Christensen scored a goal apiece for the winners.

The Bend defense kept the pressure off goalies Martha Schwarz and Kamryn Doyle, who combined for four saves against the No. 21 Lancers from Eugene.

Summit 12, Bend 8: Justin Radatti had four goals and two assists to lead the host Storm to the High Desert Conference championship win. A.J. Weichman had a goal and three assists for Summit (5-0 HDC, 13-2 overall), and Brendan McIntyre scored twice and had an assist. Connor McGrew recorded 10 ground balls for the Storm, and Will Maskill made 15 saves. For Bend (2-2, 7-8), Chance Beutler had four goals and an assist, Spencer Steckman and Cohl Johnston each scored twice, and Levi Schwarz made six saves. Oregon High School Lacrosse Association postseason brackets are expected to be announced Wednesday.
