Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron star in “Baywatch.” (Frank Masi/Paramount Pictures)

“BAYWATCH”

Rating: R for language throughout, crude sexual content, and graphic nudity.

What it’s about: A big screen, bombastic take on the cheesy ’90s show about sexy lifeguards.

The kid attractor factor: Stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron will draw younger audiences and the raunchy action-comedy genre will be attractive to teens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Teamwork makes the dream work!

Violence: Several high-stakes water rescues, including a boat on fire and explosions, shootings, chases, fisticuffs, near drownings, a death by fireworks.

Language: Strong language and swearing throughout.

Sexuality: Several suggestive scenes discussing sex and sexy bodies. Graphic male nudity.

Drugs: The appearance of drugs on the beach sets the plot in motion, and some girls are referred to as high. Some drinking.

Parents advisory: This is fine for teens but too raunchy for kid audiences.

“PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES”

Rating: PG-13 for sequences of adventure violence, and some suggestive content.

What it’s about: The fifth installment in the seafaring franchise follows the Pirates formula.

The kid attractor factor: The action-adventure genre and beloved character Jack Sparrow will attract kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Believe women when they say they know something; never stop fighting for your loved ones.

Violence: Several action sequences involving violence: a bank vault heist, an escaped execution with a harrowing guillotine stunt, and several nautical battles and escapes, including stabbings and murder.

Language: None

Sexuality: Some intimations and suggestions about sex and other intimacy — either with Jack Sparrow or in the budding romance of Carina and Henry. A passionate kiss.

Drugs: Rum!

Parents advisory: This aquatic action-adventure is fine for older kids and teens but too violent and scary for younger kids.
