Bend’s main post office at 2300 NE Fourth Street will host a passport fair onSaturday, offering customers a one-stop shop for passports, passport photos and passport cards.

The passport fair will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Those who want to apply for a new passport at the fair must make an appointment in advance by calling 503-294-2350 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Because appointments are limited, customers should call and request a spot as soon as possible.

Regular passport hours at Bend’s main post office are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The post office accepts passport applications on a first-come first-served basis during those regular weekday hours.

Bend postmaster Nathan Leigh recommends travelers apply for a passport or passport card at least two months before they plan to leave on a trip and bring all required documentation.

The passport application also requires a recent 2-by-2-inch passport photo. At the passport fair, postal clerks will provide photo services for $15 per photo.

Identification, including a copy, is required to prove U.S. citizenship. It can include:

• Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport

• Certified birth certificate issued by a city, county or state (hospital-issued birth certificates are not accepted)

• Consular report of birth abroad or birth certificate

• Naturalization certificate

• Certificate of citizenship

In addition, one current identification is required, such as:

• Naturalization certificate

• Valid driver’s license

• Current city, state or federal government identification

• Current military identification (for military members and dependents)

A passport book is $135 for adults 16 years and older, with separate payments of $110 to the U.S. State Department for the application fee and $25 to USPS for its processing fee. The total cost is $105 for children younger than 16.

Passport cards — which are suitable for land or sea border crossings but not international air travel — are $55 for those 16 and older and $40 for children under 16. Children under 16 applying for a passport or passport card must be accompanied by both parents.

To quicken the process, applicants are strongly encouraged to print and fill out their applications ahead of time by going online to usps.com/passport. USPS asks that customers use only black ink and do not sign the application form, as the passport acceptance clerk must witness the signing. Customers can also pick up a form at any passport office.

In most cases, passport renewals do not require an in-person application process. For more information, visit travel.state.gov.
