“GIRLS TRIP”

Rating: R for crude and sexual content throughout, pervasive language, brief graphic nudity, and drug material.

What it’s about: A raunchy celebration of female friendship and empowerment as four longtime friends struggle with life’s problems while enjoying Essence Fest in New Orleans.

The kid attractor factor: The bold comedy will likely draw teen audiences.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Confront your problems head-on, tell the truth and lean on those who know you the best. Vulnerability can be a strength.

Violence: A few violent altercations — smacks and punches, an all-female brawl in a club.

Language: Lots of swearing throughout.

Sexuality: Extremely frank and gleefully R-rated discussions of sex and anatomy; male nudity.

Drugs: A hallucination trip on absinthe, discussion of marijuana, smoking marijuana, lots of drinking.

Parents advisory: This movie is a blast, but it’s way too raunchy and sexual for kid audiences. OK for older teens.

“DUNKIRK”

Rating: PG-13 for intense war experience and some language.

What it’s about: Depicts the World War II battle and evacuation of British soldiers from a French beach, with help from British civilian small boats.

The kid attractor factor: Younger audiences will be drawn to young stars like Harry Styles and the action adventure genre.

Good lessons/bad lessons: A group of people coming together to help can accomplish something enormous. Survival requires sacrifice and enormous strength.

Violence: Many scenes of war violence: bombings, shootings, explosions, planes crashing, drownings. Nothing too graphic or gory.

Language: A few instances of strong language.

Sexuality: None

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: The war themes and violence will be too intense for younger kids. It would be fine for mature older kids and teens.
