More campsites set for eclipse
About 10,000 campsites are still available for eclipse tourists coming to the Madras area in August, the city announced Thursday.
Madras lies at the center of the path of totality for the Aug. 21 solar eclipse. The area will experience 2 minutes and 2 seconds of total darkness starting at 10:19 a.m. The available spots range from “daytripper” parking lots to recreational vehicle camping to all-inclusive glamour camping, or “glamping,” according to a city news release. Daytripper lots will be available from 10 p.m. Aug. 20 to 5 p.m. Aug. 21. The daytripper spots will have portable restrooms.
Authorities expect highways around Central Oregon will be heavily congested by visitors coming to witness the event. More information is available at www.MadrasEclipse.com.
