Huckleberry picker found safe
EUGENE — Searchers in Western Oregon on Saturday morning found a huckleberry picker, 70, reported missing on Wednesday.
Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley said Saturday that it’s not clear how Jerry Walter Thomas, of Prineville, survived because Thomas couldn’t fully remember what happened for several days.
Riley said Thomas hunkered down beneath trees at night to rest and was found hungry but in good health. He declined medical treatment.
Thomas’ friends reported him missing after he didn’t return to camp in the Parish Lake area after going huckleberry picking on Wednesday.
