1925 – 2017

Richard Earle Carner, 92, of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2017, at Partners In Care Hospice House in Bend, Oregon.

Richard is survived by his wife, Beryl; and his two sons, Melvin and Larry. One son, Michael, was lost in 1969 while serving in the US Navy.

Richard also has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with four surviving brothers and sisters. Richard was born in 1925, in Portland, Oregon, and raised on a farm close to Battleground, Washington, with his six brothers and sisters.

When the war with Japan began, Richard joined the Navy and served honorably until he was discharged in 1946. He then worked several jobs until he began his employment with Consolidated Freightways, where he remained there for 35 years.

Richard married Beryl Edna Allen in Battle Ground, Washington, on August 20, 1948, and they just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

After retirement, Richard golfed, fished and enjoyed the good life surrounded by good friends and family. He truly was “Papa San” to all of his younger brothers and sisters. His only grief was the loss of a son at such an early age.

A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 20 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond, Oregon, 1113 SW Black Butte Blvd, with a military internment at the Crescent Grove Cemetery on September 23 at 11:00 am in Tigard, Oregon.

Autumns Funerals in Redmond is in charge of the arrangements.
