“MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS”
Rating: PG-13 for violence and thematic elements.
What it’s about: Famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot must solve a murder mystery on a train trapped by an avalanche.
The kid attractor factor: The stars and lush production value, and mystery/thriller elements might draw teen audiences.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Never underestimate a quirky Belgian man’s knack for clues and reading people. Sometimes judgment can’t be passed or justice truly served.
Violence: The murder is a stabbing, which we see, as well as the bloodied corpse. There’s a stabbing, chases, fisticuffs, etc. Nothing too gory or extreme.
Language: None
Sexuality: Some suggestive banter and references among the passengers.
Drugs: None
Parents advisory: While kid audiences probably won’t be interested, it’s fine for older kids.
“DADDY’S HOME 2”
Rating: PG-13 for suggestive material and some language.
What it’s about: Grandpas come visit the dads for the holidays while they try to share a Together Christmas.
The kid attractor factor: The kid stars, broad comedy and knowledge of the first movie.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Don’t be afraid to express your emotions about others, say I love you, and reject machismo that gets in the way of your happiness.
Violence: Some light physical fighting and snowball fighting, some mishaps with a leaf blower and an electrocution.
Language: Some strong language.
Sexuality: Flirting, references to sex, encouraging children to kiss each other.
Drugs: None, but the young girls get drunk on eggnog.
Parents advisory: Not very raunchy but a bit too mature for kids. Teens only.
