Central Oregon team ropers finish out of the money in 8th round of NFR

LAS VEGAS — Team ropers Charly Crawford and Russell Cardoza each recorded times on Thursday, the eighth night of the National Finals Rodeo, but both finished outside the top six and did not earn any prize money for their efforts.

Crawford, a header and former Prineville resident who now lives in Texas, and his partner, Joseph Harrison, of Overbrook, Oklahoma, recorded a time of 5.5 seconds, while Cardoza, a heeler from Terrebonne, and his partner, Montana cowboy Dustin Bird, were eighth with a time of 5.7 seconds.

Header Clay Tryan and his partner, Jade Corkill, and Luke Brown and Jake Long tied for first in the round in 4.1 seconds, earning $23,480.77 each.

Crawford is currently ninth in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association 2017 headers world standings at $133,705.88 with two nights remaining at the National Finals Rodeo, and Cardoza is 10th among heelers at $136,004.41. Brown, who hails from Stephenville, Texas, leads the headers with $210,457.43 in earnings, while Cory Petska of Marana, Arizona, tops the heelers standings at $204,070.58.

In other highlights from Thursday, saddle bronc rider Ryder Wright, 19, scored 92 points on Show Me Again, winning $26,230.77. It was the first saddle bronc ride to earn 90 points or more at this year’s NFR.
