Bailey Dickerson did not single-handedly win the game, of course. But the statistics make a strong argument in her favor.

The 5-foot-11 sophomore forward grabbed 23 rebounds — to go with 14 points, six assists and five steals — and led Mountain View to a 53-45 home-court win over Class 6A Wilson of Portland on the second day of the Les Schwab Oregon Holiday Hoopfest.

“She had an outstanding game,” said Cougars girls basketball coach Steve Riper, noting that Dickerson’s rebounding helped limit the Trojans to a single shot on most of their possessions.

Wilson, which shot freely from the perimeter and made eight 3-pointers in the game, led 14-10 after one quarter and 27-26 at halftime. By the second half, Riper said, Mountain View figured out the Trojans’ defensive scheme.

“Once we settled down,” said Riper, “we did a better job handling their pressure — it’s a trapping defense — and we started making good decisions.”

The Cougars overtook the Trojans in the third quarter for a 36-35 lead, then outscored them 17-10 in the fourth quarter with the help of 7-for-11 free-throw shooting.

Mia Morey scored 15 points and freshman Kailynn Bowles added nine for Mountain View (5-4), which won for the fifth time in six games.

Roseburg 47, Ridgeview 46: Aspen Jeter made a long jumper with two seconds remaining, but the officials ruled it a 2-pointer as her foot was on the line, to bring the Ravens to within a point. Ciara Pinkerton recorded a steal near halfcourt, and her desperation heave was off line as Ridgeview fell at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest at Mountain View High. Rylee Troutman led the Ravens (3-7) with 16 points and eight rebounds, Gabrielle Crouch added eight points, and Jeter finished with six points and six assists.

Bend 33, Grants Pass 32: After Grants Pass hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, Bend’s Cambree Scott grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled with a half second remaining. She made the first of two attempts and intentionally missed the second to secure an Oregon Holiday Hoopfest win for the Lava Bears at Bend High. Scott finished with 10 points for Bend (8-3), and Kayla Rambo pulled in eight rebounds.

Summit 54, Putnam 29: The Storm struggled from the field in the first half but got hot after the intermission, and a 26-point fourth quarter sealed for Summit an Oregon Holiday Hoopfest win at Summit High. Hailee Neibauer paced the Storm (3-3) with 22 points and six rebounds. Olivia Loberg scored 15 for Summit, and Callista West had seven boards.

Clatskanie 45, Redmond 29: ASTORIA — Offensive inconsistency plagued the Panthers throughout their loss on the second day of the Vince Dulich Tournament, as Redmond was outscored 18-5 in the third quarter after trailing 20-14 at the half. McKaylie Capps paced the Panthers (2-6) with 14 points, Brianna Heikkila had five points, and Jenna Hall totaled 10 rebounds.

Madras 61, Franklin 45: After trailing 28-24 at the half, the White Buffaloes (7-2) outscored Franklin 22-9 in the third quarter to take control and coast to an Oregon Holiday Hoopfest win at Bend High. Lynden Harry had 19 points for Madras, Jayden Davis added 16 points, and Kaliyah Iverson and Jiana Smith-Francis each scored eight.

Molalla 47, Sisters 19: SISTERS — A Sisters squad depleted by illness held its own with Molalla for a quarter but could not keep up on the second day of the Sisters Holiday Tournament. The Outlaws led 6-2 early and were tied with the Indians 9-9 after the first period before things fell apart. Alexa Stewart scored eight points to lead Sisters (3-6).

La Grande 52, Crook County 36: SISTERS — The Cowgirls trailed just 26-17 at the half but were outscored 18-9 in the third quarter before losing in the consolation semifinals of the Sisters Holiday Tournament. Grace Kasberger had seven points for Crook County (2-9), while McKinzee Mode and Odessa Tramel-Green each scored six.

Taft 30, La Pine 23: LINCOLN CITY — After racing to a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes, La Pine encountered foul trouble and never got back on track on the second day of the Kiwanis Holiday Tournament. Stephanie Westbrook scored 12 points, Cortney Wolf scored eight, and McKenzie Walsworth had six points, five rebounds and four steals for the Hawks (3-9), whose 12-10 first-quarter lead against the tournament host was a 21-14 deficit by halftime.

Henley 52, Culver 36: SISTERS — With standout junior forward Irma Retano sidelined by an injury, Class 2A Culver came up short against 4A Henley on the second day of the Sisters Holiday Tournament. “I’m proud of the way the rest of the girls stepped up (in Retano’s absence),” said Bulldogs coach Scott Fritz. Culver (7-5), which had won three in a row, got 10 points from Espiranza Mendoza, six each from Elly Bautista and Mia Gamboa, and five apiece from Rosi Olivera and Kiana Webb.

Willamette Valley Christian 52, Central Christian 26: FINN ROCK — The Tigers (0-7) fell on the second day of the 1A Hoops Classic.

Boys basketball

Redmond 46, Astoria 44: ASTORIA — Josh Hair led an early charge with 10 of his team-high 26 points in the first quarter, and the Panthers held on at the end to snap a four-game losing streak on the second day of the Vince Dulich Tournament. Redmond led the Class 4A Fishermen 23-10 after one period, but the tourney hosts battled back and could have won it had a 3-pointer in the final seconds not missed and Hair grabbed the last of his 14 rebounds. Conner Lennie scored eight points and Kamau Troutman added five for the Panthers (4-5).

Mountain View 84, Sandy 66: Matt Van Tassell erupted for 47 points and nine rebounds to lead the Cougars to an Oregon Holiday Hoopfest win at Mountain View High. The Cougars (7-3) were tied with Sandy 37-37 at the half but raced away with a 29-12 third quarter. Chase McClain had 16 points for Mountain View.

Sherwood 75, Bend 56: Brian Warinner had 12 points, but the Lava Bears were outscored 22-11 in the second quarter and 20-12 in the third period before falling at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest at Summit High. Brock Mesarich had 11 points for Bend (7-3), and Bryan Brown scored nine.

Del Norte (Calif.) 33, Sisters 28: SISTERS — The Outlaws hung tight in a physical game at the Sisters Holiday Tournament, yet Sisters could not climb out of a 19-12 halftime deficit in a semifinal loss. Jack Berg led the Outlaws (6-4) with 13 points, and Ty Horner scored eight.

La Pine 56, Warrenton 31: LINCOLN CITY — Balanced team scoring and strong play in the post by Wyatt Oldham lifted La Pine on the second day of the Kiwanis Holiday Tournament. “Wyatt controlled the paint and was a great inside presence today,” said Hawks coach Robby Gilliam, pointing to the 6-foot-6 senior’s 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Giroux Gerhart and Austin McKittrick scored 11 points each for the Hawks (3-7), who outscored Warrenton in all four quarters.

Culver 42, Ridgeview JV 40: Weston Basl rebounded his own miss with only a few seconds remaining and made a follow-up shot to lift the Bulldogs to a win at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest JV Tournament at Summit High. Basl finished with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, to go with five rebounds and four steals. Eduardo Gutierrez had seven boards, three steals and two blocks for Culver (2-10), which snapped a four-game slide.

Central Christian 60, Willamette Valley Christian 39: FINN ROCK — The Tigers (4-3) cruised to a win at the 1A Hoops Classic.

Wrestling

Cougs 4th at NW Duals: ALBANY — Mountain View surged past West Albany (61-12) and Sweet Home (45-22) before falling to Dallas (46-17) and Sprague (42-30) to take fourth at the 35-team Northwest Duals. Brothers Blake and Beau Ohlson paced the Cougars with 4-0 records in the championship bracket. Blake recorded falls in each of his four 152-pound matches, while Beau had two pins at 132. Kagen Lawrence went undefeated at 106 with three falls lasting just 2:24 to help Redmond place 10th as a team. The Panthers lost 43-31 to McMinnville but rebounded for a 48-35 win over Hood River Valley. Redmond then lost to North Marion 39-36 and Tillamook 47-30. Austin Anderson, at 113, also went undefeated for Redmond. Bend took 12th with losses to Dallas (49-21), Tillamook (50-21), Milwaukie (51-24) and David Douglas (53-21). The Lava Bears’ Payton Davis had two falls and a decision to go undefeated at 170, and Haakon Kjellesvik went 3-1 at 182, including a 46-second fall against Milwaukie.
