Tyler Dorsey is earning more minutes in Atlanta.
The rookie from Oregon scored a career-high 14 points for the Hawks in a loss to Washington on Saturday and followed up with eight points, including two 3-pointers, in 13 minutes during Monday’s 105-100 win over Minnesota.
“I’m liking his competitiveness,” Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer said, according to Graham Chapple, who runs a Hawks blog. “He’s in there scrapping for some loose balls, trying to compete on the defensive end. He’s getting more confident, more aggressive, more comfortable offensively. … He’s got a knack offensively. We just have to keep working with him defensively.”
Dorsey, a second-round draft pick who was sent to the G League earlier this year, has played double-digit minutes in six straight games while averaging 6.7 points during that stretch to push his season average to 3.8.
“I’m always going to stay confident in myself,” Dorsey told Chapple. “In the beginning of the season, I was begging and waiting for this opportunity to come. It’s here now and I’m just gonna stay confident.”
Oregon coach Dana Altman often hears from his players who have moved on to the pros, including several who starred for the Ducks’ NCAA Final Four team last season.
“Tyler has been in and out of the lineup, but he is playing a bit lately so I am excited for him,” Altman said.
Jordan Bell has not played for Golden State since injuring his ankle on Jan. 15, but the former Duck told Altman “his ankle is getting better.”
Dillon Brooks had 12 points in Memphis’ 120-109 win over Phoenix on Monday. He has scored in double figures in seven of his past eight games and will play in the Rising Stars game during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Chris Boucher, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last March during the Pac-12 Tournament, has returned to the court for Santa Cruz, a G League affiliate of Golden State. Boucher signed a two-way contract with the Warriors as an undrafted free agent.
The 6-foot-11 Boucher is averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in an average of 14.7 minutes during his first four games. He is shooting 50 percent from the field and 36.4 on 3-pointers.
Dylan Ennis played for the Warriors in the summer league before signing to play overseas. Former Duck Elgin Cook was with Santa Cruz last year before going overseas this season.
“A lot of guys are playing still,” Altman said. “Almost everyone who has played here the last seven years is playing somewhere. It is fun to see them pursue their dreams.”
