Facebook awarded a total $204,870 to 20 nonprofits and schools in Crook County, the social media giant announced Wednesday.

Since 2011, Facebook, which operates a data center in Prineville, has donated almost $1.5 million to Crook County schools and qualified nonprofits through its Community Action Grants program and local donations.

A letter has been sent to recipients with details, including an invitation for them to attend a reception and tour of the newly-opened Building 3 at the data center on Feb. 16.

The 2018 grant recipients are:

Barnes Butte Elementary School — $20,000 for schoolwide Scottish Storyline curriculum training and educational kiosks and trail signs at the Barnes Butte property.

Central Oregon Council on Aging — $4,160 for an information and resource program in Prineville.

Central Oregon Trail Alliance — $45,000 for the Lower 66 trail system in Prineville, including park benches and picnic tables.

Central Oregon Youth Development Inc. — $4,850 for an integrated, secure Virtual IT system to support its After the Bell and The Landing programs.

Crook County High School Computer Science/Technology Department — $23,000 for computer components so Introduction to Computer Science students can disassemble and rebuild outdated computers.

Crook County High School Robotics Club — $1,000 for robot storage unit.

Crook County Middle School — $5,720 to upgrade the gymnasium sound system.

Crook County School District — $3,600 for two Sphero Robotic Power Packs, which will provide digital Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics content for districtwide use.

Crook County School District — $12,360 for 40 iPads for Crooked River Elementary School and Barnes Butte Elementary School Kindergarten.

Crook County School District — $10,000 for Wi-Fi on three district buses so that rural students with 90-minute bus rides can do schoolwork while commuting.

Crook County Veterans Services — $5,000 to help create a computer lab that is available to all veterans.

Family Access Network — $5,000 to help establish a FAN advocacy program at Crook County High School.

Friends of Powell Butte School – $8,328 for a new school kitchen stove.

High Desert Museum — $5,000 to support Kids Curate, a year-long STEAM education program that creates engaging experiences for underserved students.

Humane Society of the Ochocos — $19,900 toward the design plans by Shelter Planners of America for a new shelter.

Junior Achievement of Central Oregon — $10,000 for Junior Achievement in-class programs in middle and high school classes.

MountainStar Relief Nursery — $5,030 towards the purchase of a play structure and two computers.

Oregon Mayors Association — $2,500 towards the “If I Were Mayor” contest, which includes elementary, middle and high school students.

Powell Butte Community Charter School — $5,722 to purchase materials and support instruction for 40 sessions of after-school coding classes in grades two through eight.

Rimrock Trails Adolescent Treatment Services — $8,700 for four computers and four laptops for student and staff use.
