The secondary runway at Redmond Airport is undergoing reconstruction starting Feb. 26, the airport director announced Wednesday.
The $10 million project will reconstruct runway 11-29, which will close until Oct. 4, according to a news release. The primary runway will remain open, as will the fixed-base operator. Commercial air service will continue without interruption, according to the release.
High Desert Aggregate and Paving is the contractor. All but 6.25 percent of the project is funded by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. Airport funds pay the remainder, according to the release.
Redmond Airport included work on the runway cross-section when it upgraded the primary runway in 2016, work that closed the airport 21 days. The previous work means the airport can continue operating during the secondary runway upgrade.
More than 800,000 passengers pass through the terminal every year, according to Zachary Bass, the airport director. Because of the increasing number of air travelers in Redmond, Bass advised arriving 1 1⁄2 to two hours prior to scheduled departures.
