Summit overcame both a wave of illness and a crosstown rival on Tuesday night.
The Storm, with a number of players and coaches alike battling sickness, put together their first winning streak since December with a 50-38 Intermountain Conference girls basketball victory over Mountain View on the Cougars’ home floor.
Hailee Neibauer scored 16 points and Olivia Loberg added eight for Summit, which led 26-23 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to beat Mountain View for the second time this season.
“We came out a little flat,” said Summit coach Lynnette Landis, whose team trailed 17-15 after one quarter. “Then we just kind of picked up the intensity in the second half.”
Spencer Hurley had seven points and four rebounds for the Storm, who also got eight rebounds from Rainie Codding. Olivia Treu was 4-for-4 from the foul line, highlighting an 11-for-16 free-throw performance for the game for Summit (3-5 IMC, 7-11 overall).
The Cougars (1-7, 7-12) hurt the Storm from the perimeter early, hitting four 3-pointers in the first half, including three by Mia Morey. Morey finished with 17 points and Bailey Dickerson scored 10 for Mountain View, which dropped its third in a row.
