Summit kept the race for the Intermountain Conference championship a tight one Tuesday night, as the Storm recorded a 62-50 boys basketball win over visiting Mountain View.
With the win, Summit (6-2 IMC, 10-5 overall) moved into a tie with the Class 5A No. 4-ranked Cougars (6-2, 14-5) atop the IMC standings. Bend (5-2 IMC) lost to Redmond Tuesday to drop to third place.
Summit used a strong third quarter to notch the win Tuesday, outscoring Mountain View 22-6 in the period. Beau Blea scored 10 of his 12 points in the key third quarter to help the Storm take control.
“We forced turnovers and went on a run,” said Summit coach Jon Frazier, “and then in the fourth we were able to hold them off.”
Karson Klecker had 18 points to lead the Storm, which went into the half leading 25-24. Joe Hicks notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Summit, and Jacob Tompkins scored 10 points.
“The first time we played (Mountain View), we played really well,” Frazier said, referring to a 55-48 loss at Mountain View last month. “We were confident we had a chance to win if we played really well and executed really well. It’s tough to knock someone off three times in a row, and (we) really wanted to get a win and even the series before our final game.)”
Chase McClain paced Mountain View with 18 points, and Matt Van Tassell added 10 points.
