Waterston Desert Writing Prize deadline — Applicants for the 2018 Waterston Desert Writing prize have until April 1 to complete their submissions. In its fourth year, the prize honors creative nonfiction with the desert as subject and setting and was inspired by author and poet Ellen Waterston’s love of the High Desert of Central Oregon. The winner will be announced in May and receive a $2,000 cash award, a reading and reception at the High Desert Museum in Bend and a four-week residency at the PLAYA at Summer Lake retreat.
