Hot Buttered Rum returns to The Belfry

San Francisco newgrass quintet Hot Buttered Rum will return to The Belfry on Saturday. It’s the fourth year in a row that the progressive acoustic act has visited the venue (among plenty of gigs in Bend during that time span, too), and if you’ve been to any of those gigs in the past, you know why. The group’s stomping rhythms and extended jams, coupled with a prominent traditional string-band streak and a penchant for harmony, have put the group at the forefront of the newgrass movement. All sides of the band’s personality are on display on the three-EP “The Kite & the Key” series (2015-2016): soulful ballads (Part 1), straight bluegrass (Part 2) and late-night party jams (Part 3). Expect a little of all three Saturday night.

Hot Buttered Rum: 8 p.m. Saturday; $15 plus fees; The Belfry, 302 E. Main Ave., Sisters; belfryevents.com.
