Northern California’s Object Heavy has made a name for itself in the last few years as a crack backing band for artists such as MC Raashan Ahmad, Chali 2na, John Popper of Blues Traveler and Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic). But the band’s own music — hard-grooving, funkified soul shot through with jazzy twists and hip-hop attitude — is perhaps more compelling. Bendites don’t need to be told this, of course: The octet, which is booked by local promoters Parallel 44 Presents, played Immersion Brewing’s first anniversary in May and was a highlight of the Bend Fall Festival. Get another dose of heaviness at the next edition of Crow’s Feet Commons’ Apres Ski Bash on Friday.
