With more warm, dry weather in the forecast, firefighters on the Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest are planning a prescribed burn Thursday.

Firefighters are planning to burn 86 acres of forest about 2.5 miles southwest of Sisters, and approximately 2 miles south of the Crossroads subdivision, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. The goal of the prescribed burn is to reduce the buildup of hazardous fuels in the Wildland Urban Interface near Sisters in order to prevent high-intensity wildfires in the future.

While no road closures are anticipated because of the burn, smoke may drift onto nearby forest roads and highways, including U.S. Highway 20 and state Highway 242, according to the release. Residences and businesses in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed during the night hours to avoid the smoke.
